My Treasure
This piece is of Treasure Cay in the Bahamas. I have always had a special connection with the water, but here the water was like God put a flashlight under it and lit it from underneath. It was so brilliant it made the sky look lavendar. My work typically deals with the relationships and temperaments between water and land, and how they are similar to human relationships. The beach represents a no man's land of compromise and the water is the saving grace. Land is usually the adversary in life and snow fences the obstacles or regrets. The atmosphere reflects the emotions linked to the experience being executed on canvas. Since life and human reationships are not clearly secure, my paintings are not always spatially absoute in their perspective. Shapes describe depth but color defies it. Spatial tension is used to emphasize human characteristics and the push and pull of those involved. Layers of colour reflect the complexity of the human condition.
