Born in Ft Bragg, California, Ken Newman connected to wood as a young boy as he roamed the redwoods and the ocean of the north coast, worked as a third generation logger and then as a custom home contractor in Truckee. Ken has focused solely on sculpture the last 20 years, while living in Idaho and traveling the country. His artistic vision to create sculptures from unique raw forms of wood has garnered national recognition and sculpture awards across the US. Ken's work has continued to evolve leading him into mixed media and bronze sculptures in both the wildlife and figurative genres. Sculpting in new mediums and subjects including the figure, gives him another opportunity to share a vision or story with those who love art. Over the years, Ken has enjoyed sculpting in public venues. It encourages an interesting dialog that can have a significant impact on one’s work and thought process. By engaging the viewer to share their influences and cultural insights into the creative process, it helps him understand his own journey. A natural extension of this is the motivation to place work in public venues allowing the dialog to continue. Ken Newman is an Elected member of the National Sculpture Society, and the Allied Artists of America in NYC. He is also a Signature member of the Society of Animal Artists of Loveland, CO. The Last Whistle is his first larger than life sculpture he has completed. Fall newsletter is online at http://www.kennewmansculptures.com/users/KenNewman13294/Fall_2016_Newsletter.pdf
