Fishing the Urban Reef

Katie Gotch's avatar Katie Gotch

The piece I'm creating portrays a busy and rainy Tokyo street transforming into a coral reef. Although this work indirectly addresses the recent tsunami and jellyfish problem Japan faces, it is very playful and whimsical in nature. People's umbrellas transition into jellyfish and cars rise up off the street into sharks and fishing boats. The focus is to portray the childlike wonder of imagination while still acknowledging the realities of life in Japan. I am willing to make this piece larger or smaller to fit specific spaces for a venue.
