Growing up in Western Michigan with a father who was a craftsman was a gift; I learned to create with my hands. Though I’d worked as a counselor, over the past twenty years I’ve found passion in creating as a welder, blacksmith, and glass artist. In my past career, I strived to help people view the world from a different perspective. I find that I still attempt to do that through my art. I try to capture the things that move me most deeply and I’m gratified when those images resonate with others. The process itself of transforming solid, cold steel into graceful, flowing sculptures is a joy to me. I’m excited to enter Art Prize for the first time this year, particularly because of the inspiration for this piece. You can see some of my work in the portfolio below.
