I'm working on my third series of storm images in the last eight years. Except for the first storm, I watch them roll in on the radar, head to the site ready to document with my camera, and then get home safely as they approach. The power, energy, colors, composition, and unpredictable nature of nature have helped me change the way I work. Formerly a plein air artist, I now work only in my studio from the images I have captured as guidelines, not copies. There are now more than seventy images of these storms that accurately describe each moment of the storms. They have helped me focus on who I have become after a loss. Every mark, every blending brushstroke, every erasure is me exposed in a very public way. Introvert exposed. I own my own gallery and frame shop in Iowa City, Iowa where I moved to attend the University of Iowa in 1979. I knew I could not afford the schooling, so I took as many studio classes as possible with the funds I had. 30 some odd years later, I am still learning who I have become and will become.
