New Bone

2011 ArtPrize Entry

A sacred symbol of Life is the subject matter of “New Bone”. Abstracted, organic bone shaped stone resonates natural evolutionary and metamorphic change. This sculpture communicates a strong, grounded; intimate and spiritual Life force embedded with ancient wisdom that touches our primitive and guttural instincts of survival and senses of beauty. Using a vocabulary of universally understood organic rhythms this work is a visceral and intuitive experience. This vocabulary of organic rhythms is capable of touching our deepest senses of primitive and ancient wisdom, which is carried with us through eternity, sometimes without our “intellectual” knowing. I am privileged, occasionally to experience this as I work with stone in this vocabulary. To touch for a moment that buried space of understanding and acceptance of this present form of Life and freedom from the ego.
