Kate Teale lives and works in New York City. Born in England, she received her B.A. at Oxford University; her Painting Diploma at City and Guilds of London Art School and her MFA at C.U.N.Y. Hunter College. Kate’s first solo show in New York City was at Spring Gallery in SoHo in 1996. Recent exhibitions include: two solo shows (2013 and 2016) at her gallery Studio10; "The Housed" solo show at James W. & Lois I. Richmond Center for Visual Arts, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo in 2014 and at Olpaka Gallery, Albany in 2016. Earlier solo shows were at at Kristen Frederickson Contemporary Art, NYC; Hampden Gallery, UMASS, Amherst and Yearsley Spring Gallery, Philadelphia. Group shows include Monya Rowe Gallery, Chelsea NYC; Jim Kempner Gallery, Chelsea NYC; AIR Gallery NYC; ‘Keeping It Real’, at James W. & Lois I. Richmond Center for Visual Arts Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo; The Boiler, Brooklyn Work can also be seen at Pierogi Gallery flat files, Brooklyn. Kate teaches at Parsons School of Design, and has also taught at Pratt Institute, Hunter College, and Yale (Graduate drawing, School of Architecture). Kate received a Painters and Sculptors Grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation in 2013, and was a New York Foundation of the Arts Fellow in Painting 2008.
