2012 ArtPrize Entry

The beauty of life lies in the details shared from one life to the next, manipulated & formed by the elements of life: earth, fire, water & air. From afar the piece is dominated by bold white lines outlining the structure, creating the icon. Move closer & see a vibrant world of flowing & changing energy. Fluid & tangled, every detail is as functional as it is formative. In the center lies a Greek cross, signifying balance & the center of gravity. The mothers hearth holds the fire of her soul. Water is the cohesiveness flowing in and out of the body & air is represented by movement & vibration. The birds head is a tightly woven cylindrical sphere with fish swirling toward the center. This signifies making ends meet, for as a bird needs fish to survive it must spend time thinking about how to cleverly capture them. The wing represents precision & mobility. Overt religious symbols throughout signify faith, guidance & the infusion of Gods presence among the details of life.
