Deinonychus

2011 ArtPrize Entry
Add to Collection

Deinonychus (pronounced: dy-non-i-kes) is a life-size metal sculpture of the dinosaur of the same species name. It is similar to and often confused with the smaller Velociraptor. Deinonychus is made of recycled auto body panels and steel rod. I enjoy working with found objects and recycled materials, and the auto panels give a pre-colored palette to work with. I did not paint the sculpture in any way, all colors are from the reused metal. The steel rod works as a skeleton to support the outer layer of colored sheet metals. I have always enjoyed and been intrigued with dinosaurs and hope to be able to connect with the viewer with the shape, forms, and materials I have used in my art. I hope my piece fits well with the theme of ArtPrize and encourages further conversation of the arts.
