I'm an artist balancing a career as a Crew Chief for American Airlines. I've spent that past few years earning an MFA and traveling the country creating paintings in and out of airport break rooms and hotels. The collection, titled Gangrene is collage of watercolor and ballpoint pen drawings that stretches 27 feet long and 9 feet high, and growing every month. My art, like the infection, presents as a collage that continues to grow organically. Gangrene presents an ambiguous visual feast that sheds light on problems vexing society such as unchecked population growth, over consumption, pollution and war that we have come to accept as the norm. The work is titled Gangrene, because similar to Gangrene if left unchecked these issues will destroy us. The collage presents as an untreated wound, manifesting and devouring the vacuous space that surrounds it. The work has mainly been created in the deep south of Savannah, Georgia where gangrene devastated the combatants of the Civil War, and where the wounds of those battles remain lingering in the corners of the city’s famed burial grounds. The paintings have been exhibited around the country and featured in a number of magazines such as High Fructose, New American Paintings, Direct Art, and American Illustration. Please feel free to e-mail me for more information, and thank you for your kind consideration.
