Green Maple Portrait

My work is realist-expressionist. For me, the patterns, shapes, lines and colors of nature are very beautiful. I want to take them and express something more; that is why I am not a perfect realist. This work is based on a photo study I did long before. I asked my brother to hold a fallen, red autumn leaf against the sky so that I could photograph it there alone against the gray sky. When I started to paint it, I decided to produce something in green and purple or midnight blue, so I transformed the image from its original colors. I like the vivid expressiveness of complementary color schemes: here it is spring green and what I suppose is eggplant or midnight blue.
