Mugshots
2012 ArtPrize EntryBy combining familiar and unfamiliar faces (all real mugshots), "MUGSHOTS" is about judgment, justice, unity, celebrity worship, the fragility of the human condition, second chances, being a victim of our own criticism, as well as a fear of intimacy. Showing this series at the JW Marriott Hotel creates a contrast between "cheap" and luxury. It also compares the concepts of entertainment and reality, and what is public and what is private. This collection took 3 1/2 years to create with each piece taking up to 6 hours, and 12 hours to install. Each painting was done by hand with inexpensive, acrylic craft paint. Jodi Rietberg-Schmalz is a West Michigan artist with no formal degree but a lifelong passion for art and culture.

Venue & Connection Information
Each mugshot painting measures 6 inches x 8 inches. This series has the potential of being broken up and displayed in various ways. For instance, they could all be lined up at eyes level down a large hallway covering 67 feet. I would love to discuss display options with the right venue.
