"Whirled"

“Whirled”- (This is a suspended piece that hangs like a chandelier above the viewers heads. It hangs from a chain and has an incorporated Chain cover). Ever since Hurricane Katrina, I have been mesmerized by images of hurricanes stretched across our oceans. These powerful formations are strikingly beautiful yet in contrast, wreak havoc on the world. I have felt overwhelmed by their force, beauty and destruction. For me, “Whirled” is an artwork that captures my hopes, fears and fascination with these intense forces of nature. I chose to suspend this piece so that natural light will shine through it’s translucent layers. I also thought it was appropriate to elevate this form so that it might play off the concept that we are, “over our heads” in environmental disasters.
