I feel color and flow. My bold style of painting contains icons I have collected that illustrate cross-cultural commonalities. My archival watercolors are quite recognizable: large scale, with strong color and pattern, great depth and unique design.. My focus is on multi-cultural concepts of color and pattern found in the objects that populate my work (carvings, masks, tools, textiles, etc.). This work explores a timeless universal human trait: the love of color and pattern in objects we create with our hands. By weaving items from diverse cultures together into unusual compositions, each painting invites the viewer to create a personal narrative, thus joining the creative process. Without this bond between artist and viewer, art is rather droll. I want to create a dialog with the viewer, not lecture them. This is all wrapped in a universal cross-cultural love of color and pattern that humans have expressed since pre-history. Hence, in the end, it is art that ties us all together.
