"TBA" (Brown Line Approaching)

Jeremy Tubbs's avatar Jeremy Tubbs

About the five layer process: First a layer of white colored duct tape is placed over the entire surface of the panel, next three layers are cut by had with an x-acto knife revealing lower layers to make the image. These three layers consist of: gray or regular silver duct tape, dark gray or heavy-duty duct tape and black colored duct tape. Finally a layer of clear duct tape is applied over the entire surface and sealed with a coat of acrylic painting varnish. From the Grand Rapids Press: "Perhaps the most unusual use of materials is by Chicago-based artist Jeremy Tubbs. From a distance it calls to mind the kind of urban realism known through the work of artists ranging from Richard Estes to Kendall's own Jon MacDonald." - Joseph Becherer, chief curator / vice president for collections / exhibitions at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, Oct 3, 2010
