Once upon a time I was a graphic designer and occasional illustrator. After creating for others for a period of about 15 years, I decided I wanted to create art just for me. Then, over the last few years I have been working hard to develop a personal style I could put out into the world. I have treated it as if I was creating my own language. One of my goals was to create a system of expression that could be replicated in a variety of ways yet always be unique. While this isn’t the only style I explore, it has become my default. My other goal as an artist is to create a sense of calm, balance, and understanding with my audience. No matter the medium, I create my art through an intuitive process. Each mark leads to the next until I feel the piece is interesting. My hope is that if the piece feels good to me, it may feel good to someone else. The best compliment I receive is when someone says they really like my work and can’t figure out why. This tells me I have achieved that intimate connection with the viewer and we now share an emotional understanding.
