Still Standing

My project is to display the faces of the people left behind after losing a loved one to cancer. This disease has greatly affected my family and me. I lost my mother, father, uncle, aunt, brother-in-law, and very dear friend to cancer since 2005. I often wonder if the grief will ever subside, but it just seems to fluctuate, never really go away. My project is a photography piece that will display the photos of the people left behind, while also including a photo of the ones who have passed. The photos will be mounted on canvas boards that will be decorated with Acrylic paints and assorted notes to the deceased. There will also be a blank board next to the photos for the Artprize visitors to write their own note to their loved one or express their feelings of how cancer affected them. My purpose is to give an artistic outlet to those who are hurting, grieving, and missing the ones they love, a way to show cancer that even through the pain of the loss it has caused we are still standing.
