This multimedia project depicts the often-overlooked role that women play in defending our country. Female veterans, a growing part of the veteran population, were invited to decorate a pair of combat boots to portray their time of service. Along with the boots, the display will include current portraits of the women who decorated the boots, and photos from their time in uniform. The images are timely with the recent decision to officially include women in combat roles (a role many of them played already). In addition, the return to civilian life can be difficult for these women, many of whom do not even identify themselves as veterans. The project is a way of allowing them to take pride in their service.
