I'm a self taught painter and have painted for fun and relaxation since the 1980's. In 2012, I had not been able to afford the hobby for a while and had stopped, when I went with a friend to the beach at Tybee Island in Georgia. It was an overcast, moody day, and I began to wish I had brought a camera, so I borrowed my friend's cell phone and snapped a set of pictures. When I downloaded them into my laptop, the 21st century finally caught up to me, and I realized right away what I could do. I can use the photo edit functions as a sort of grand collection of photo filters. This is done commonly in nature photography, and is the basis for the dramatic nature imagery that we're familiar with. For me, though, I saw that I would have a fun new art form to use if I could then take these images and incorporate them into my painting, retaining the general layout of the edits. Since then I've had fun with this, but I've gotten much further on the photography than the painting, due to both time and budget. However, since the goal of the project is the final paintings, I've been trying get them caught up and perhaps prepared to show. Many years ago, when I was first starting to paint, I actually had a dream, and as I was waking up, I heard a voice say, "Paint God's Love". After I woke up, I thought that was fitting, since I was working on nature painting. Now, though, I'm doing it in a slightly different way, using new methods to highlight the untamed beauty that is still with us, if we take the time to look, and I would appreciate your support.
