Making a Point II
The piece that I am showing is a larger version of the piece, “Making a Point” that I made in 2008. The original piece is 12” x 12” x 2”, and made from approximately 225 pencils. I have quadrupled the original design and I am fascinated with the many patterns that exist within the combinations of pencils. The new piece is 24” x 24” x 3” and use over 900 pencils. For many years I have been exploring the idea of multiples. I develop patterns from the accumulation of everyday objects. Within my pieces there is a sense of the micro and macro. From a distance a shape, line, pattern, or design is noticed. Upon closer inspection, a familiar object is discovered.
