Plexus No 18
2012 ArtPrize EntryThe Plexus series is an ongoing group of installations made entirely out of regular, brightly colored sewing thread, strung from anchor points aligned in rows in opposing parts of a room The effect of the thread, when used in such a large scale, is almost that of a dematerialization of physical substance, becoming something ethereal that plays with the viewer’s perception. Conversely, because the color of these thread structures is composed of the color spectrum, they can be perceived as a materialization of fragmented light. So these installations become an in-between space where the material dissolves and the immaterial seems to manifest. The intention behind them is to represent the order that is the intrinsic quality of nature—albeit hidden behind an apparent mask of chaos.
