I have been working as an artist for about 45 years and have exhibited my work in national and regional competitions as well as participating in solo and group shows. I was born in Chicago and moved around the country while my husband was in school. We lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Athens Ohio, Frankfort, Kentucky, and now live in central Florida. I received an MFA in Painting from the University of Kentucky in 1980. Before moving to Florida in 1998 I worked as a Designer at Kentucky State University. After moving to Florida I began teaching high school art ; I retired from teaching in 2018. My paintings usually reflect what I feel about something I see in nature; often these paintings are somewhat abstract. I think of my art as expressionistic. By using color, texture, line, movement, etc., I hope to make paintings to which people will respond to emotionally. Music often speaks to and connects with people on an emotional level: you may not know exactly why you like a piece, you just know that you do. That is what I hope will happen with my paintings. In my mind, you do not have to explain why you like a work of art. I participated in ArtPrize in 2015 and 2016. Thank you for being a venue for this great event, and also thank you for considering my work. You can visit my website below, or I will happily send you my portfolio. --Evalyn VerHey www.evalynverhey.com The Art Venue Gallery, Bloomington, IN Xanadu Studios, Xanadu Gallery, Scottsdale, AZ
