Lucy
2012 ArtPrize EntryThis is a portrait of Lucy. It portrays the essence of her wonderous curiosity towards the discovery of her world. Her features depict a moment when Lucy was playfully engaged within her own imagination - possibly role playing, talking or making faces. I love to paint candid expressions of children which beckon the onlooker to ask themselves, "What are they thinking?" . My paintings evoke a universal sentiment to those who bear witness to the enchanting moments that children can create. The instant when a child expresses themselves so humorously and intelligently unfiltered; that it leaves us filled with awe, appreciation, and wonder at their characteristic individuality and natural instincts. A child's fantastical faith of themselves and the unknown future can teach us very valuable lessons. They remind us to be true to ourselves, and our dreams, even while life experience threatens to accumulate more inhibitions upon our identities.
