Kindeling- Beauty From Ashes

Shortly after the fire at the Kindel Furniture Factory, I collected some of the charred and melted artifacts that had fallen from the building. Initially, I wanted some memorabilia from the event, but that evolved into a need compulsion to create a sculpture. The piece is homage to the Kindel legacy left to Grand Rapids, as well as a powerful symbol that unintended beauty, and art, often arise from the ashes of tragedy or misfortune.
