Emeka Ikebude

Dallas, TX, United States

My work explores themes of dislocation and fragmentation, and involves painstaking techniques of transforming everyday materials like wood, fabric, and metal into distinctly characterized sculptures. I am allured by the beauty and strength inherent in unity, and I replicate this phenomenon by uniting diverse and, often, minute forms into massive, variegated compositions. I employ the techniques of contouring, layering, mapping, welding, cutting, fraying, dyeing, gluing, and stitching. These processes and their result remind me about community, and the remarkable things that happen when people unite.
