I fell in love with art at a young age because in creating art there is never any idea that is too far-fetched or impossible for one to imagine. As I got older my love for art was strengthened through my own battles with depression. Art is a great means of nonverbal communication because it has no language barriers. Creating art doesn't always make me happy. Art helps me to explore and express whatever emotions I may be feeling and it lets me fully realize, verbalize and (if needed) cope with those feelings. My art helps me to communicate when words aren't enough and is my constant confidant. I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Eastern Michigan University. As a Psychology major and Art minor I hope to someday become an art therapist. I am very passionate about arts advocacy and am thrilled to participate in an event as massive as ArtPrize, which so clearly demonstrates the positive effect art can have on a community. As an aspiring art therapist, I work with many mediums and have recently discovered the amazing world of sculpture! My entry this year is a piece I created for my sculpture class under the amazing tutelage of Professor Brian Nelson during my final semester at EMU. Getting my sculpture from Ypsilanti to Grand Rapids was definitely the most nerve wracking car ride I have ever experienced. Thank you for checking out my work and my page!
