I love to work with bright colors, and shiny objects - metaphorically speaking, involving topics with a slightly darker subtext. This is true whether I am making a painting, a photo compillation, or a mixed media sculpture. The goal in my art is to awaken subconscious minds, and to provoke conversation. I love to open doors to thoughts that may be uncomfortable and welcome them with arms wide open. Women, race, equality, power, celebrity, the artworld, consumerism and the environment are recurring subjects in my art. I am a full time contemporary artist. I grew up in Laguna Beach, California and for the last few years I have lived in Cary, North Carolina with my family. I love to travel, run, workout and of course visit as many art venues, galleries and art museums as possible. I also collect contemporary art myself. I believe in peace, equality and protecting the environment. I have authored several books including a photography book on Baja Mexico and two on North Carolina. I also wrote a book called Sea Voices where I interviewed experts and celebrities alike from all over the world about how what is going on with the ocean and how every person can make a difference regardless of how far the live from the sea. I was the first person born in the United States in my fathers family who lived for years in a refugee camp before coming to America. I feel extremely fortunate to have had all the opportunities of being able to live and grow up in the USA. I believe that most people have more in common than they think regardless of politics, and also I believe art is the gateway to opening conversation to people of all different stars and stripes so-to-speak.
