I love working with organic shapes and color in unexpected combinations. For Artprize, I've created an art quilt based on ancient pictograms and Taoist calligraphies which have long lost their meanings. For this piece, I intuitively cut and pieced hundreds of fabrics to construct 2 eight foot square panels, using both new and old fabrics, including an old apron, clothing and curtains. I cut the figures out of these panels and appliqued them on white fabric which was sandwiched with organic cotton and bamboo batting. Texture was added with machine quilting. The title comes from a poem by Mary Oliver, which perfectly states my own goal of living each moment mindfully: "Instructions for living a life. Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it."
