Elaine Spatz-Rabinowitz was born in the Bronx, New York City, and now lives and works in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she has shown widely in museums, and in galleries in Boston and New York. Her signature works of oil paintings on cast, pigmented Hydrocal (plaster) are held in numerous public and private collections, among them the Addison Gallery of American Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Spatz-Rabinowitz is the recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Bunting Institute, and the Massachusetts Cultural Foundation. Alongside an active career making and exhibiting paintings, sculptures and drawings, she has worked as a set designer with Peter Sellars on some of his most notable international productions. Professor of Art Emerita of Wellesley College (2008), Spatz-Rabinowitz now teaches Painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.
