Stargazers
2012 ArtPrize EntryStargazers is a painting reminiscent of the post-impressionist movement of the late 1800s in its style and brushwork, while adding a modern fisheye perspective. I painted Stargazers with thick impasto brush strokes combined with lightly brushed swirls and circles. My aim was to create a piece filled with motion so as to create a lively dreamscape, both distant from reality, yet close and inviting. Stargazers was created on two canvases as I love working with, and love what multiple panels can do to a composition. The first and second photos are stills of the painting process taken from the video feed I am recording. The third and fourth photos show progress in the earlier stages. The fifth photo was the very original (and very awful) rough sketch. I have filmed the entire painting process which can be seen on YouTube. I encourage you to check this out. You might love it. Stargazers can be seen live at Independent Bank on Monroe Center Sept 19 - Oct 7.
