My entry for ArtPrize 2015 is a juxtaposition of the popularly accepted theory for the origin of life with a glimpse into the sheer complexity found in the foundations of that life. The image alludes to the popular explanation famously put forward by Charles Darwin and Alfred Wallace in 1859 and quite unquestioningly accepted by a great many scholars today. The image itself is formed using the coding instructions for the assembly of a single protein, which is just one of over 20,000 unique proteins encoded into human DNA that form the foundations upon which our bodies are constructed. This particular protein, called Titin, forms a major part of the structure of every muscle cell. The sequence defines a blueprint detailing the specific order in which more than 34,000 amino acids must be assembled to allow them to be "folded" into the 3-dimensional object that is the finished protein. The words from Romans 1:19-22 present an interpretational context for this piece.
