Over the River and through the Woods
2012 ArtPrize EntryMy Children are the Major Inspiration behind this Piece. Their mind's know no limits, and when I started Sketching Idea's the frame was also on my mind. Then I thought " What if Elements of the piece were the Frame ". That's when I came up with the Idea of Sculpting the tree's off the Canvas. The Tree's were First Sculpted out of 2" Installation Foam, that I carved with a Jig Saw and Electric Carving Knives. I then covered the Foam with Plaster that I pigmented, then I used a number of color washes to create the bark. The 180 Leaves were an undertaking unto themselves. Sculpted out of clay, Moulded out of Fiberglass and Cast in Pigmented Latex. The Painting itself is Acrylics and Oils using Brushes, Palette Knife and AirBrush.
