SLAG (Noun) 1. Low-quality coal that is unusable. 2. British informal derogatory: A low-life, useless individual. The subject of my entry is the coal miners from the North of England who, during the political upheaval across Britain in the Thatcher years of the 1980s, saw their livelihoods and communities decay through strikes and eventually disappear after the closure of the collieries.
