ARTIST STATEMENT I am a self-taught visual artist. My creativity started in elementary school drawing comic book characters using pencils. In my early twenties I began to use colored pencils, charcoal, pastels and acrylic paint. I have always had a great appreciation for all art styles and sought to develop a new and creative way to produce art. In 2014, I started collaging with a unique process that I call Laypuzzim® (layered puzzled image). Laypuzzim® art is created by cutting textured card stock paper, mat board, or wood. Each individual color of the art piece is cut out by hand, layered, and puzzled together to create an image using negative space. This process is very innovative, intriguing and thought provoking. Over the years I have drawn inspiration from many things. However most of my current artwork is inspired by biblical themes and events that took place during my childhood in the city of Detroit. I am passionate about creating artwork with a message and sparking meaningful conversations.
