I've spent most of my free time immersed in Northern Michigan woodlands. For my seventh birthday, my parents bought me a wood burning kit and a jack knife. Carving wildlife came naturally to me. Throughout high school, my carving skills matured, but it wasn’t untill years later that I thought of myself as an artist. This original sculpture style has evolved after 35 years of endless trials and error, and countless sacrifices. It’s fair to say my life has been consumed by this passion. From whimsical lady bugs, to a sobering full scale golden eagle in flight, I have carved it. I never utilize glass eyes, paint or stain in my sculptures. All pieces are solid hardwood (walnut, maple, cherry, and other exotic burls). I also utilize heat and fire, ivory from mastodon tusks, and blend differing kinds of sawdust with adhesives. Each sculpture is stable and will not crack, check, or peel. This is true heirloom artistry that will last for generations. Please touch gently and enjoy. "Heffy"
