I started this grand painting more than ten years ago. In it, I wanted to describe the immense variety of trees and flowers that grow in Costa Rica. My work as an artist and teacher did not leave much time for this enterprise, but slowly but surely, I managed to create this painting of botanic and artistic interest .I wanted to portray the density of the jungle starting in the Atlantic coast were the exotic lowland heliconia grow then rising to the highland rainforest where the many ferns and orchid species thrive. On the other side of the mountain range the land is less wet and the jungle slowly disappears into prairies that leave open areas for many flowering trees as we move towards the Pacific. Incorporated are only a few animals. My purpose is to show mostly the changes of vegetation from coast to coast.
