Division Fibers

Collective Wings

For the Division Fibers Yarn Bomb, we knew we wanted to create an outdoor fiber experience stretching a far as we could on the South Division Avenue for the Arts Corridor. Our intent and goal? To contribute to the beautification and revitalization of the Avenue of the Arts by creating public art using traditional craft methods, which in turn catches the attention of the viewer and prompts their contemplation of that craft and its alteration of otherwise everyday and mundane objects. With that in mind, we set about hosting twice-weekly open Division Fibers Yarn Socials at Parliament the Boutique, teaching anyone who came to crochet and knit for free. Our caveat? We’re providing the tools and the materials, so we kindly asked that the panels you learned on or made at our socials be added to the yarn bomb. We further spread the word of our project to yarn stores and yarn social groups around West Michigan, who also contributed fiber, panels, and have sent volunteers our way.
