Mother Teresa
2012 ArtPrize EntryNOTE: MOTHER TERESA IS NOW ON PERMANENT DISPLAY IN A RIPLEY’S BELIEVE IT OR NOT! MUSEUM…Years ago, after discovering that I was born on the same day as Mother Teresa, I decided to learn more about her. Through my curiosity I found a personal connection with this somewhat elusive humanitarian and her progressive mission. In homage to this woman and her legacy, I elected to do her portrait. After toying with the idea for more than two years, I chose to create my piece out of bread. The use of this unusual medium, I feel, is a perfect metaphorical representation of the woman who devoted her life to feeding the minds, bodies, and souls of India.
