I grew up in Nebraska but have found a home in Michigan. In 2001 I moved here to earn an MFA in photography at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Soon thereafter I bought a former crackhouse Hamtramck, Michigan, and fixed it up to live in. Currently I teach photography, direct the Cranbrook Summer Art Institute, an art program for teenagers, and founded a non-profit artist group called Hatch, where we converted a former police station into an art center. My artwork has shown in a few dozen venues as far away as Shanghai.
