I am currently a full-time Artist who just graduated from UC Davis studying Studio Art and I cant stop creating. There are many mediums I love to work with but most of my work consist of chalk pastel. I enjoy working larger because it requires my entire body to be involved. I desire the process or journey of creating the piece more than the finished piece itself. That moment when you are so sore and tired that you sleep next to your piece. Or you start blending with your feet because your arms are too tired. Lately, I have been experimenting with making large portraits into relief sculptures. I love the process and the physical labor that is involved when forming my 2D drawing into a 3D tangible piece. It requires all of my attention and energy to figure out how to make the piece work. These large chalk portraits are transformed into 3D by using plaster and joint compound, wood, or metal to sculpt parts of the face. Art is hard, because it requires you to face yourself everyday. I have to understand my weaknesses and strengths and constantly learn how to fix/work with my mistakes. There is so much more to learn and experience in the art world and I am excited to embrace it!
