Lake Love
2012 ArtPrize EntryDuring one of the few big snows in 2012 I ventured out along the Red Cedar in East Lansing. Trying to find some "Winter Wonderland" shots I eventually caught sight of this brave canoeist and chased him for about a mile in my heavy winter boots. Finally after getting a few average shots just before he rounded the last corner I switched my settings and managed to capture "Valor." This piece was the basis of "Lake Love," even though it isn't on a lake, it shows the passion that people can have for the water. Being on the water has always been my absolute favorite place to be, whether I am rowing, kayaking, swimming, or just relaxing, water holds a peace, calm, and majestic power. Growing up on Lake Michigan I am particularly fond of this Great Lake with it's sandy white beaches, breath taking sunsets, and crystal blue water. This collection of images is my depiction of the love that individuals can have for the water, in the bitter cold of winter or the solitude of a midsummer sunset.
