Strike a Pose
2011 ArtPrize EntryIs there someone who has never dreamed to bring in or integrate a fashion magazine's cover into real life? I chose to extract certain covers from existing publications and enlarge them to life-size using screen-printing techniques. This work was done in order to propose a tangible and lively reading into what is usually flat glazed images and paper. My art is to make a Live Magazine, Hit the Headlines, and Strike a Pose. This gives anyone (not just supermodels) the possibility of being painted in a portrait and to hit the headlines of the biggest fashion magazines in the world. Enlarging the covers and making them accessible to all, offers a vision totally different from an original version and allows people to acquire a new dimension and way of reading into the magazines. I emptied the cover of the images and used only typography, letters, bar codes, titles and visible lines of construction in order to make them somewhat closer to abstract paintings.
