A message for Survivors
2012 ArtPrize EntryWhen all is lost, there is a desire to live on, even if the means of doing so is irrational or desperate. I propose to provide a means for gallery visitors to send a “message in a bottle” for potential survivors of the 2012 apocalypse. Visitors to the installation will have the opportunity to record a video and see it dispersed into hanging video pendants installed in the gallery. The collective experiences of the visitors will be mapped into the gallery space and played back continuously. After a period of inactivity, the bottles will silently and randomly cycle through previous recordings.

Venue & Connection Information
Visitors will interact with a wall-mounted touch screen display (iPad or Android tablet) and by doing so record a video message for future generations. The message will be relayed to 50 or more 3.5” video screens contained in plastic bottles suspended in the gallery. After a period of inactivity, the bottles will silently and randomly cycle through previous recordings. The wall mounted touch screen will also provide an interface for people to audio to hear the recordings of previous visitors emanate from the suspended bottles. Otherwise, the videos will silently play. Wifi and an Internet connection is required for this to operate. I can provide a wifi hub if needed, but would need to tap into the venues Internet connection.
