I'm a Chicago based painter. The work I'm involved in now is process driven. I'm constantly experimenting with materials and techniques. The techniques I employ are based on traditional approaches; lean to fat paint layering (hard to flexible), glazes of variable opacity to manipulate color. My mark making is spontaneous with no preconceived visual content in mind. It's this flow of engagement that is of primary importance. By relegating my thoughts to logistics as much as possible I feel I get visual content that is based on the whole organism not just my thinking function. By letting the work evolve "on its own" my studio practice takes on a physically meditative state by monitoring my painting and my mental activity. In this way I can slow down and at times stop thought all together. These moments of unknowing bring a clarity to my vision in and out of the studio.
