Got a great idea for an ArtPrize entry in the Grand River? Hurry up, your chance is now! Pre-applications are due to the City of Grand Rapids by Monday, March 5.
A pre-application should contain no more than one page of text, and between 5 and 10 images images of what you are proposing to install in the river. Pre-applications can be sent to Jose Renya at email@example.com
Based on the pre-applications received, the City will select one or more projects to shepherd through the DEQ application process. This process is more involved, and will require specific engineering information and analysis of any potential environmental impact.
Any art proposed for installation in the Grand River must be submitted to the city of Grand Rapids and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) according to the following schedule:

The DNRE will process the application using the following steps:
- Public notice period begins: Friday, March 30
- Public notice period ends: Friday, April 20
- Public hearing, if requested: Friday, May 18
- Required time for comments: Tuesday, May 29
Thursday, June 7
This process allows the State of Michigan and City of Grand Rapids to review proposed work and ensure that the installation meets specific criteria relevant to the environmental, structural and navigability impact on the river.
