ArtPrize is getting closer, can you taste it?

Artist registration for ArtPrize 2012 is officially closed. More than 2,000 entries are registered for the radically open art competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Artists were required to enter their project in an open call format before 5:00 p.m. today. There are many returning artists from previous years, looking to experiment on an audience of more than 322,000 visitors, but there are also many who are entering for the first time.

Today represents just a brief pause in the ArtPrize process, a final tally of entries won't be known until June 21 at 5:00 p.m. All artists have two weeks to complete their entry by making a connection and hosting agreement with a venue in order to show their work. 195 venues registered in back in March, and nearly 650 connections have already been made.

Connections process has been compared to a dating website, in some instances, venues are approaching artists, while artists are simultaneously approaching venues, this unique courting process provides ArtPrize with all of its surprise, and focuses the event on the works of art. Any venue who doesn't have art, or any artist who doesn't have a venue by June 21 at 5:00 p.m. cannot be part of ArtPrize.

So, in a couple weeks, we will know exactly how many entries and where they will be showing in the fourth annual competition.

ArtPrize 2012 will take place September 19 through October 21, 2012.

Stay tuned for even more.
