Bernie Langton was born in the sunny city of Durban, on the East Coast of South Africa and has loved drawing ever since she could hold a pencil. Her parents supported and encouraged her passion for art. After studying Commercial Art at M L Sultan College in Durban she worked in the art department of a major publishing company. Four years later she launched her own art and design studio and also drafted building plans. Bernie owned a construction company for almost 30 years, contracting to companies such as Kimberly-Clark, Tupperware and Mondi in South Africa and to Smurfitt Paper Mills in the United Kingdom. Bernie met her husband, Kevin Pratt, in 2012 and after many months of soul searching made the decision to emigrate to the United States. Bernie lives just north of Adrian, Michigan, loves the people and the relaxed pace and feels blessed that she is able to continue to create beauty through her art. Bernie works in graphite, acrylic and oils and draws much of her inspiration from Africa, the vibrant continent of her birth. Bernie is a resident artist at the Adrian Center for the Arts and has permanent displays at venues in both Adrian and Tecumseh.
