The Neon Boneyard
The work is a large installation that interferes and plays with the architectural space of the area. It consists of large voluminous objects that are supported and hung from scaffolding like structures. Along with these are billboard style posters hanging from the walls and from planes created from wooden frames that break up the space. The installation is designed to feel uncanny, as if it is floating above the viewer, and precarious looking enough to create a tension and unease for the audience as they move through the space. Each of the objects and images have elements of collective recognition about them. Feeling decidedly familiar but at the same time presented in a way that they feel uneasily different. This feeling of floating also relates to the use of the computer as a tool in the works conception. As with virtual and computer game Landscapes the physically impossible becomes a reality and makes us question the way we relate to space and the objects that define that space.
