My paintings are a contemporary vision of tonalist impressionism prevalent in the early 1900’s. Living in the diverse landscape of Connecticut as American impressionists such as Childe Hassam, Bruce Crain and Willard Metcalf…I experienced the same subtle moods of light, color and changing season. Residing now in Western Michigan I have continued to find inspiration through the abundance of natural lakes, beaches and farm fields. An extensive photographic career has taught me the importance of composition and lighting, these values are always present in my work. I am searching for a balance of reality and illusion, allowing the viewer to perhaps sense the sentiment of the scene as well. I am grateful for the placement of numerous paintings in private homes and corporate collections across the United States, as well as, showings at prestigious galleries such as the Cooley Gallery in Old Lyme Connecticut…all of which allows me to continue to refine and explore the craft of oil painting.
