About the work
Title: Progressive Movement(s)

Art form: Film / Video, Performance

Medium: Video(s)

Year created: 2011

Description of work: Progressive Movement(s) is a series of three videos that draws heavily upon the creation of sculpture. Content for the videos is derived from the experience of daily living; and daily activities are a point of emphasis in these works.

1) Moves Manager- features a custom walking machine that I designed and built in my studio. The main character in the film (riding the machine) is a businessman who uses the machine to move about.

2) The Business of Staying the Same is Always Changing- features a custom helmet with an emergency beacon mounted on top of it. A businessman who runs through the streets with the light flashing atop his head plays the main character.

3) Enter Primeval Knievel- features a helmet that appears to be made of a large piece of basalt. The main character carries a toolbox and interacts with the public by engaging them in a series of performance tasks on a street corner in Portland, OR.

Footage for each of these works was shot in public.
